The Curriculum at Great Whelnetham C of E School

The curriculum and the effective implementation of that curriculum is at the heart of Great Whelnetham C of E Primary School.  All children, whatever their ability, need or starting point are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum rich in knowledge and experience. The pupils at Great Whelnetham C of E Primary school are supported to achieve their full potential and beyond through the provision of a cohesive and carefully planned curriculum, rich in substantive knowledge. We have used the aims and objectives in the National Curriculum as our minimum standard and have added to these in our own curriculum design.

As a team, we are incredibly proud as we feel our children arrive at our school with a real curiosity and zest for learning. Our curriculum is designed to inspire enthusiasm for learning, to ensure achievement and to nurture pupil health and well-being.  We aim to develop independent, creative and inquisitive learners who gain the confidence, resilience and skills needed to be learners for life and responsible citizens for the future.

Our inclusive curriculum focusses on progressive subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding. It promotes high aspirations by engaging pupils in rich and memorable learning challenges that take pupils beyond the classroom.

Our design is reviewed regularly, changes can be made as we like to capitalise on the children's interests as well as significant local and national events, projects and initiatives as or when they arise.

We place great emphasis on a happy and nuturing learning environment.  Our lessons are challenging, engaging and inspiring. High expectations are expected from everyone in our school community and we live and breathe this through our school motto, “NUTURE-GROW-SUCCEED TOGETHER.”

Long Term Curriculum Planning 2022-2023 and 2023-2024
Bespoke, quality teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do.  Our intention is to provide engaging and immersive subject related experiences which capture children's interests and develop and extend their knowledge, skills and love of learning.

As some of our children learn in mixed age year groups, we plan out curriculum on a two- year cycle, for most classes so that each year covers all areas of each individual subject.  Here are the long term plans we have created, sign posting areas of learning ahead for each subject and year group.
