PE & Sport

"I have always believed that exercise is the key not only to physical health but to peace of mind". Nelson Mandela

We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our children and understand the impact of physical activity and sport has on this. We aim to provide an inclusive, broad and balanced PE curriculum which ensures all children will benefit, whether through enhancing existing skills, learning new skills or being introduced to new sports, clubs, teams and organisations.

School Games Mark - Gold Award

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games GOLD mark award for the 2022/2023 academic year!

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into their community,  and so we are thrilled to have been recognised for our success!

As part of the application , we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs and so we are incredibly pleased the hard work at our school has been rewarded this year. I have been extremely proud of our pupils competing in local inter-school competitions this year and their dedication to all aspects of school sports on offer.
School Games Mark - Silver Award

We are delighted to have received a silver rating in the School Games Mark 2021-2022. This is a government led awards scheme which rewards schools for the commitment to development of sport and competition within the school enviornment and beyond.

Gymnastics Curriculum

RE: Gymnastics curriculum with Rivers Gymnastics Academy

Two qualified British Gymnastics coaches will lead the gymnastics curriculum sessions throughout the academic year, enabling all cohorts to experience a bespoke programme. The sessions will be tailored to individuals using an athlete-focused approach, in a fun, safe, professional environment.

The sessions will progressively develop the fundamental movement skills and core fitness elements to include: balance, strength, flexibility, rebound, power, and co-ordination. Additionally, the children will have fantastic opportunities to partake in activities on specialised equipment with the highly trained and experienced coaches.

Each session will work towards the targets as set out within the National Curriculum and National Curriculum Plus, allowing the teachers an opportunity to upskill through CPD. All children will be developing physical literacy and gymnastics skills in the most efficient and effective way whilst encouraging a sense of motivation, challenge and achievement.

Sports Leaders

Some of our older pupils have been selected as Sports Leaders. They have represented the school in sports competitions and have proven themselves to be good role models.

They are enjoying developing their own skills of team building and cooperation as they carry out their role.

They have been given the responsibility of helping with Sports Days and whole school events and to help with the PE equipment. It is hoped that they will be able to run a club at lunchtime in the near future.

Our Sports Leaders for 2023/2024 are:
Frankie
Alfie
Erin
Harley

The Daily Mile

We know that the positive experiences we have at a young age shape habits for life – which is why it’s so key to help young children enjoy getting active daily.

Our aim is to get children fit for life and fit for learning by encouraging them to run or jog for 15 minutes every day in school. A physical activity which promotes social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing, as well as fitness.

It takes place outside in the fresh air during the school day at a time of the teachers choosing. Children run in their school clothes and no special kit or equipment is required.

The Daily Mile can be summarised as ‘every child, every day’, based on the ‘Four Fs’: fun, friendship, fresh air and fitness.
