World War II Day - Swans Class

Swans class enjoyed a fun-packed day of games and challenges to link with their current World War 2 topic.  We met a German officer, an Air Raid Patrol Warden, built both an Anderson shelter and a Morrison shelter and tried them out to decide which one would feel safer in a bombing raid.  The children also had to use their wits to defuse and un-exploded bomb!

Later the children worked out angles and distances for bombing different targets, completed a quiz on all aspects of the war and handled objects from the era, including a ration book, a hand grenade and some wartime foods.  In the afternoon the class put together a Lancaster bomber and were given job roles to perform on a mission over Germany - successful until they were hit and had to bail out over occupied France!
