Art Enrichment Day

Art Enrichment Day – ‘Celebrating Suffolk Artists – Past and Present’

Our Art Enrichment Day, ‘Celebrating Suffolk Artists – Past and Present’ gave the children the opportunity to learn together about artists who have made an impact on our local culture.  The day included a carousel of activities based on the artists: Sybil Andrews, John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough, Maggi Hambling and Carl Giles. The whole school was involved in printmaking, cartoon drawing, sculpture, textiles and collage.  The children had the opportunity to work with Elisabeth Rutt, a Bury St Edmunds textile artist and also volunteers from Gainsborough House in Sudbury. During the day some of the children were also involved in making a ‘willow’ den in the garden area with Mr. Sharp and Mrs. Ansell.  The following week we held a very successful Art Exhibition to celebrate the children’s work.

What our parents said about our exhibition:

‘Such creativity! Really impressive artwork with input from all the children. Must’ve been a fun day! Well Done.’

‘Lovely exhibition.  I particularly liked the clay waves and the fabric forest!’

What our children said about the Enrichment Day:

‘I thought that the day was a great way to bring out the creative side in everyone.  I enjoyed the willow-weaving making the dome tent.  I like to make things!’

‘I liked the cartoon drawing because it was fun and I’m usually not good at drawing but I am proud of my work.  We learned about Carl Giles.’
